AUDIO / VISUAL

Kuini Qontrol was originally a small inclusive club-night started in Aotearoa New Zealand in 2015-2018. The night was born following the organisers ‘Equalise My Vocals’ project, a successful national campaign calling for a more inclusive, anti-exploitative music industry and safer club life.

Kuini Qontrol shortly grew into a Soundcloud hub amplifying different audio/mixes from the night. Now a platform for tracks, mixtapes, DJ mixes and podcasts, our page is now a hectic home for media prioritising/sharing a wide range of voices.

In 2020 Kuini Qontrol became a record label helping artists to release their work independently outside of the traditional industrial complex. With a focus on Māori and Pasifika musicians have started a journey of upskilling and teaching musicians literacy around the use of their work (including recording and collective skillsharing at Coconutclouds Studio at Wheke Fortress Gallery). Check out our releases below (with full interviews of artists on the blog) and look out for shared mahi and stories directly from our community of visual and audio artists.
